This training course was developed by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) in collaboration with Penn State Extension Urban Foresters in southeast Pennsylvania.
Since 1993 PHS has trained over 3200 Tree Tenders in 150 PA neighborhoods. Since 2004, the program has been supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. In 2008 the program expanded to Pittsburgh and smaller metropolitan areas, and since 2013 it has been available statewide. Nearly 6000 additional Tree Tenders have since been trained.

Attire
